Reading a US printer's total
A US printer's own page states its price in its own way. This guide explains four things worth checking before you read a total as the amount you will pay.
Prices are shown before sales tax
US sales tax is set by the state, and often the city or county, that the order is delivered to. It is not a single rate, so it cannot be added to a listed price without knowing the delivery address. Every US total on this site is shown before sales tax for that reason. Sales tax is added by the printer at checkout, once it knows where the order is going. This is general information, not tax advice for your own order.
Delivery is not always stated
Some printers show a delivery charge, or say delivery is free, on the same page as their prices. Others do not state a delivery charge at all. Where a printer's own page does not show one, the total on this site excludes delivery rather than guessing at it, and says so next to the total.
Minimum orders round a job up
A printer that charges by length, rather than by fixed sheet, can set a minimum order length. A job shorter than that minimum is still charged for the minimum length. A printer that sells fixed sheet sizes has no separate minimum in the same sense: the smallest amount you can buy is its smallest sheet, and whole sheets are always charged, so a short job can still cost a full sheet.
Turnaround wording is the printer's own
Each printer's stated turnaround, for example "ships the next business day", is taken from that printer's own page and shown as it was written there. It is not checked against real orders, and it can change without the listed price changing. Read it on the printer's own page before you order against a deadline.
Compare the total, not the headline rate
A printer's cheapest listed rate is not always the cheapest total for your job, once sheet sizes, delivery and minimum orders are taken into account. The builder prices your own packed designs at every listed printer, so you compare a real total rather than a headline rate.
